The California Architectural Foundation and AIA California are honored to announce the recipients of the 2022 Chester and Diana Widom Architectural Education Scholarship, in honor of Paul W. Welch, Jr., also known as the Widom Scholarship.
This scholarship provides opportunities to community college students from California to pursue their architectural education. Scholarship recipients will receive up to $3,500 to help offset the costs of higher education in architecture and design. Awards can be used for qualified tuition and related expenses and/or to otherwise improve or enhance your capacity, skill or talent in the field of architecture.
The 2022 Jury was comprised of Mandy Freeland, AIA; Keelan Kaiser, FAIA; Rona Rothenberg, FAIA; Paul W. Welch, Jr., Hon. AIA; and Chet Widom, FAIA. Overall, the Jury was impressed with the caliber and qualifications of this year’s applicants noting the students in consideration were exceptionally motivated with extraordinary accomplishments and backgrounds. Narrowing down the list of candidates was difficult for the Jury as there were numerous highly qualified students worthy of the scholarship, but ultimately, the Jury selected five outstanding scholarship recipients.
