Fellows Feature Questions:
  1. Why did you apply for fellowship?
I have served in numerous areas of academic and professional leadership over my 25+ year career as an educator and practitioner. Heavily involved with both ACSA and the NAAB, I have helped develop three new schools of architecture, in varying capacities. Most recently, I served two terms as President of the AIA Inland California, strengthening the planning and execution of the goals and objectives of the organization.

  2. Where were you when you got the news you received it?
I was at the university when I found out. I walked down the hall to my sons second year design studio and shared the news with him first. Then I shared with the rest of my students and colleagues in the afternoon.

  3. How did you celebrate?
My kids made me a cake and we celebrated on a Saturday morning! This was followed by subsequent acknowledgements by the university.

  4. What’s your one piece of advice for those applying, or thinking of applying?
Research example applications in your object area. Talk to as many fellows as possible to seek their advice for application, particularly in your object area.

  5. What’s is your most favorite project you have worked on within your career?
I have enjoyed helping people realize their dreams, whether it is a first generation college student earning a degree, or creating spaces for people to enjoy the built and natural environment and improve their quality of life, or developing new architecture programs with specialized and unique missions that integrate faith perspectives.

  6. Who has inspired you most within your career?
I am inspired by everything around me. My earliest employers taught me love for the environment, people, public art, and service. That has carried through into my work today as an educator and mentor to emerging professionals.
