Case Study|

In 2017, after 30 years in a leased, market-rate office suite, AIA California embarked on a multi-year process to create a new office environment to better reflect the mission and values of AIA CA :

Ultimately, a free standing, brick, railway warehouse building on the outskirts of downtown Sacramento was selected for an adaptive reuse transformation into AIA CA’s new headquarters.

Utilizing an integrated project delivery approach, a multi-disciplinary team assembled to collaboratively harness expertise in design, systems, and practice from the outset. This optimized efficiency and reduced waste through all phases of design, fabrication, and construction. Throughout the project, the owner, design team, and builders worked together based on a financial model that aligned business interests through shared risk/reward, including financial gain at-risk depending upon project outcomes, to insure success.

The result is a multi-functional, light-filled, all-electric, and zero net carbon new office, delivered within a conservative budget – made possible in part through the generous contributions of friends of AIA CA – that will transform how AIA works and promotes healthier, better functionality.

We are pleased to share our experience during the construction of the new AIA California headquarters.
