To enhance its Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts across the organization, AIA California has launched an EDI Steering Committee. Past President Debra Gerod, FAIA and 2021 President Brett Dougherty, AIA identified the need for the Steering Committee in response to society’s growing concern and conversation regarding social injustice and the architectural profession’s desire to take steps to be part of the solution.

The EDI Steering Committee will champion a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the AIA CA organization and thus, create a more diverse community within the architectural profession. The Committee will create and promote opportunities for education, leadership, and professional practice to broaden the profession’s cultural representation. Using an EDI lens as an additional layer of perspective to AIA CA’s planning, the Committee will contribute to strategic planning conversations and create a dialogue for issues important to underrepresented groups in all aspects of architectural practice.

President Brett Dougherty, AIA has appointed the following AIA CA members to participate in the 2021 EDI Steering Committee:

  • Debra Gerod, FAIA, Past President – Chair
  • Brett Dougherty, AIA, President
