This program will examine the process and decision making that led to an all-electric approach at the new University of California, Irvine Medical Center, Irvine (UCIMCI) design build project. The project is located on a pristine site adjacent to a large wetland marsh and includes a 144 bed hospital and an ambulatory care center, a shared surgery suite and outdoor venues. Sustainability and a connection to nature are core design principles, coupled with the understanding that these connections lead to wellness and better patient outcomes.
