Credit Cram | Towards a New Climate Urbanism: Wildfires, Microgrids and Holistic Communities

This seminar examines social agents, cultural practices, greenhouse gas impacts, building resiliency, operational carbon, and intuitional frameworks around designing with the dynamic fire ecologies of Southern California and in response to the urgency of adaptation to increasingly large, frequent, and unprecedented wildfire events. With a primary focus on the Los Angeles city and wilderness interface, this seminar will review history, policies, growth at the exurban periphery, and wildfire risks of this area. Finally, this program will touch on methods of resilient design and their benefits, inventive infrastructure, landscape management and carbon reduction opportunities that can impact this region and others like it.

This program will present the impact wildfire has on vulnerable populations in high risk areas, and how resilient design and resiliency strategies can defend the health, safety and welfare of those populations.
