The practice of 'Passive House BB' has been designing, building, and monitoring Passive House projects across California for more than a decade. This presentation will provide a high-level review of that journey. It will touch on Passive House basics, then look at how this standard has been integrated into the processes and practices of this firm. A selection of single- and multi- family projects located across California will be used to illustrate specific targets, metrics and details, including early forays into embodied carbon analysis. Some architects are under the impression that the 2030 Commitment is only for large firms and that reporting is too difficult for small to medium-sized firms. To dispel that myth, this program will focus on two modest-sized firms that participate in the 2030 Commitment. Browning-Day is a medium-sized, regional firm in Indianapolis, Indiana. Solar and battery requirements have evolved over the past decade in the California energy code. We will cover 2022 code requirements for all occupancies of buildings at a high level in a short 1-hour introduction to solar and battery for Single-Family, Multifamily, and Nonresidential buildings.We will use examples to illustrate how much is required, exceptions, and Zero Net Carbon Design concepts and give previews of longer Energy Code Ace offerings on renewable energy.*This will be the final session in the Climate Action Track for Credit Cram 2023Why it's important:Be compliant, stay updated with the 2022 Energy Code.
