Standard of Care: A Decade of Passive House Projects in California

Virtual

The practice of 'Passive House BB' has been designing, building, and monitoring Passive House projects across California for more than a decade. This presentation will provide a high-level review of that journey. It will touch on Passive House basics, then look at how this standard has been integrated into the processes and practices of this firm. A selection of single- and multi- family projects located across California will be used to illustrate specific targets, metrics and details, including early forays into embodied carbon analysis. We'll close with a brief discussion of 'Standard of Care', with a proposal for how architects can choose their own 'standard of care' to include outcomes well beyond the currently narrow legal definition of this term. NBI | Understanding and Reducing Energy Use and Carbon Emissions in Museums

Virtual

Museums and other cultural institutions have unique building use patterns and characteristics, which can present energy challenges not often encountered in other public buildings. Limited research on the sector’s energy use patterns and greenhouse gas emissions makes energy benchmarking difficult. The presenters in this session will describe recent research on this building type and discuss how it is shaping current practices addressing Climate Action in the cultural sector. The session will feature Case Studies on the efforts of cultural institutions that have committed to reducing their carbon emissions. Qualifies for 1.5 hrs Zero Net Carbon Design Mandatory Continuing Education. Certificate of completion will be provided to those who stay on and watch the webinar live.
