AIA California Legislator of the Year Award” allows for the architectural profession to recognize and honor a Legislator that has championed and fought for issues and values that are important to architects in California. It allows us to say thank you and let them know that we see the good work they are doing.
When thinking about who a good candidate for our inaugural “Legislator of the Year” award would be, one legislator naturally rose to the top, Senator Scott Weiner (San Francisco). Since being elected, Senator Weiner has been a leading champion for housing, climate action and improving the built environment, which aligns perfectly with the top priorities of AIA CA.
Currently serving as the chair of the Senate Housing Committee, Senator Weiner is known as someone who works hard to build coalitions to get important legislation passed. His resume speaks for itself: Senator Wiener has authored 65 bills that have been signed into law.
