San Francisco Architect is Honored and Humbled by California Architecture’s Highest Award
Sacramento, Calif. — The American Institute of Architects California Council introduces the 16th recipient of the Maybeck Award: Mark Cavagnero, FAIA.
Coined in some circles as “The Gold Medal of California,” the Maybeck Award was instituted in 1992. The honor recognizes outstanding achievement in architectural design as expressed in a body of work produced by an individual architect over a period of at least 10 years. Cavagnero was recognized as the latest member in this elite category for several reasons, but predominately due to his innovative and consistent body of work. “His work embodies historic preservation while at the same time embracing modernism,” one juror commented. The jury was impressed that Cavagnero could accomplish this consistency with such a broad range of clients—from civic, education, nonprofit and commercial.
“I believe in our ability to do really great things. To receive this award means my work has been participating in that way, and I couldn’t be more honored than to be recognized by my peers in this manner,” said Cavagnero.
Cavagnero will be presented with the Maybeck Awards at California College of the Arts, Sept. 24 at the AIACC Design Awards Celebration.
