Join AIA California’s Urban Design Committee for a panel discussion embracing embodied carbon strategies at the intersection of human justice, professional practice, and urban design principles for our livable communities. This panel will discuss the questions and opportunities of choice for our resilient cities and inclusive urban environments while exploring the concept of embodied justice and how we practice transformational cultural awareness. In a time with increasing challenges perpetuated by environmental and socioeconomic inequities, cities are looking to implement more regenerative urban strategies that replenish resources faster than we consume through circular economies. This panel discusses adaptable tools and methods used across California to strengthen our cities and restore communities separated by policy and infrastructure systems.Moderator: Maria Katticaran, AIA, LFA | Architect & Urban Designer, HDR Kevin Tyrrell, AIA | Partner, QDG Architecture Speakers: Leslie Sydnor, AIA, LEED AP | Director, Public Project Management, Cumming; 2023 AIALA President Marcela Oliva | Professor of Architecture and Environmental Design, LATTC Jess Zimbabwe | Executive Director, Environmental Works Community Design CenterWhy it's important:This program will explore data, metrics and strategies in addressing equity, resiliency, and sustainability in communities.
