This award is given in recognition of a career of dedicated commitment to the built environment and in recognition of significant contributions and accomplishments toward the design and development of healthcare facilities in California.
His alternative path—rather than a launching a practice or working for a firm, he established think tanks, published, and taught—led Ruga to be a ‘force-multiplier,’ guiding the continued evolution of healthcare design in California, the country, and the globe. Known for his approach to integrating clinical, technical, emotional, and social needs in healthcare facility design; the institutions Ruga founded empower countless others to design even more exemplary healthcare buildings.
