(August 11, 2026) To review the rollout of embodied carbon measures in CALGreen since July 2024 and share recommendations for the 2027 Triennial code cycle, a team led by AIA California has been invited to participate in the CALGreen Carbon Reduction Workshop series.

AIA California along with dozens of industry partners like the Carbon Leadership Forum, Buro Happold, and USGBC, will make recommendations focused on four key areas: refining embodied carbon compliance limits, introducing embodied carbon budgets as an optional performance alternative, updating CALGreen to support circular economy practices, and streamlining existing CALGreen provisions where possible.

At a September workshop the team’s findings will be presented to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and the Building Standards Commission (BSC).

AIA California has worked with a wide range of stakeholders for over four years on managing embodied carbon emissions, and was instrumental in the launch of the CALGreen Carbon Reduction Collaborative.
