The 5-year rolling clock is no more. On October 8, 2024, Governor Newsom signed legislation repealing California’s former 5-year rolling clock regulatory requirement on Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) divisions, which will align California with NCARB’s new Score Validity Policy.
The new score validity policy bases the validity of passed Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) divisions on exam versions, such as ARE 4.0 or ARE 5.0, rather than a set time frame. Candidates for licensure in California may now be able to receive credit for previously expired ARE divisions in alignment with the new NCARB policy. The law takes effect January 1, 2024.
