The California Architectural Foundation (CAF) is delighted to announce the publication of Architecture Coloring Book, a coloring book that highlights the buildings and architects that shape how we live, learn, and connect across California. From cultural landmarks to everyday spaces, each featured project tells a story, rooted in place, purpose, and people.

Highlighted projects include modernist legends such as Stahl House in Los Angeles by architect Pierre Koening, FAIA, but Architecture Coloring Book also brings to light less well know projects that have delivered significant impact to community, architecture, and state such as Shiloh Babtist Church, a mid-century modern work in Sacramento by James C. Dodd, FAIA, NOMA, a founding member of the National Organization of Minority Architects. The book s illustration of California s diversity of expanse, place, and client can also be seen through its inclusion of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. The temple reflects ancient Hindu architectural principles rooted in geometry, symbolism, and harmony.
To compile the book, CAF issued a call for submissions across the state, inviting American Institute of Architects California firms, members and architecture students to submit favorite and meaningful works from across the state. Artists include a number of college and university students as well as AIA California members.
The Architecture Coloring Book adds to CAF s multivalent approach to developing an understanding and interest in architecture for children of young ages along with CAF s Built Environment Education Program (BEEP), Architecture by the Book and KidsDraw. The coloring book was originally created and launched by AIA Central Valley. Printed copies of the book is made possible through a contribution from the architecture firm Flewelling & Moody.
