CAF Announces 2025 Kain Healthcare Design Education Scholarship Recipients

(October 5, 2025. Sacramento, CA.) The California Architectural Foundation (CAF), founded by the AIA California organization to, in part, ensure a robust pipeline of aspiring architects in order to provide architectural and design answers to the societal and environmental challenges we face, is honored to announce the 2025 Robert J. Kain Healthcare Design Education Scholarship recipients.

Three outstanding students who embody the mission of the scholarship—that architects have a crucial role to play in shaping the future of healthcare by creating healing environments that promote wellness, compassion, and innovation—were selected by a jury of architects with recognized expertise in design and health care design.

Yuka Suzuki, Covadonga Gordillo, and Jorge L. Reyes are recipients of $5500 in scholarship funds. Suzuki was awarded $2500; Gordillo and Reyes were awarded $1500 each. (See full jury comments below.)

“We are honored to support three students who are showing early commitments to architecture in healthcare, along with an aptitute to provide design excellence in this crucial area for our communities,” said 2025 CAF President Michael P. Porter, AIA. “I congratulate all three recipients and look forward to following their promising future.”
