KURT COOKNICK, ASSOC. AIA NOW DEPUTY TO THE STATE ARCHITECT
The American Institute of Architects, California Council, Announces the Newest Member to the DSA California Team
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Feb. 21, 2017—Kurt Cooknick, Assoc. AIA, the former AIACC Director of Regulatory Affairs, was sworn in as Deputy to the State Architect.
Current State Architect, Chester “Chet” Widom, FAIA, talked about his excitement to work with Cooknick. Widom said, “As someone whose entire professional career has been devoted to the betterment of the built and natural environment, Kurt’s work experience, his knowledge of DSA, and his ability to serve as a collaborator and facilitator will be of great benefit to the goals and mission of the DSA.”
Cooknick is grateful for the appointment and excited to not only bring his knowledge and expertise, but to learn from the staff. He said, “I want to bring everything I’ve learned in the past 34 years and hopefully be an asset to this team. I want to help remove any impediments and learn all that I can learn.”
Cooknick’s 21 years with the Council as Director of Regulatory Affairs will serve him well in the proceedings of this California office. He takes this position with honor and humility, thanking his former Executive Vice President and AIACC staff, and AIA members. “It is not lost on me that in return I owe a debt of gratitude; one which I hope to have repaid through my many years of service. It is equally clear to me that without the experience and knowledge gained while employed at the Council these past 21 years, and in the profession of architecture the prior 13 years, I would not have had the opportunity and privilege to become the Deputy to the State Architect.”
