Natural disasters everywhere are increasing in frequency and intensity as they are being exacerbated by climate change, and California is no exception. These disasters impact our buildings and communities and are major contributors to carbon emissions that are largely being overlooked. The Climate Action Resilient Design Subcommitee believes architects have a role and responsibility in increasing the resiliency of the built environment to adapt, sustain and thrive in this changing climate, which can in turn help reduce carbon emissions from the impact of these disasters, and strives to bring awareness of this issue to the membership and public.
