Advocacy Takes Your Involvement!

AIACA Working for You Graphic x Advocacy Takes Your Involvement

Greetings from the AIA California Office,

One of AIA California’s most essential functions – and the reason we’re in Sacramento – is to advocate on your behalf… we are your voice in government, fostering relationships and tracking issues critical to your future success. We stand up for the profession in front of the Legislature; we assemble a cadre of design professionals to serve as representatives on a whole host of issues in one of over 20 different regulatory bodies that impact the design and construction industry, and we “shout from the rooftops” about the value you bring to your projects and your communities.

Standing up for removing barriers to housing (like lobbying for single stair) to urging reform for CEQA, from climate action initiatives to school, hospital, and project delivery policies— AIA California champions the issues that impact your daily practice. While you’re focused on responding to RFIs or designing your next project, we’re tackling the issues on your behalf. But our work can only go so far— it takes your ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT to affect change.

Each of us participates in the political process in our own way — whether that’s meeting with elected officials, serving on a local board, or simply staying informed. What unites us is a shared desire to create a better built environment. There are three easy ways for you to actively participate right now:

  1. Complete the annual AIA California Advocacy Survey. Your insights guide our work and shape the policies that strengthen your practice and the profession.
  2. Reach out to CAL FIRE and provide comments on the upcoming single-stair report. We need them to hear from as many architects as possible to increase housing production. Find out more and where you can connect with CAL FIRE, here.
  3. Nominate an elected official who’s supporting the built environment. Nominate them for the AIA California Legislator of the Year here.

No matter your role — firm owner or practitioner — AIA California is standing up for you, tackling the challenges that affect your profession, ensuring your voice is represented and your interests protected.  Providing opportunities to influence outcomes and advocate for a better built environment is just one more way AIA California is Working for You.
