We are thrilled to announce the return of AIA California's Award Ceremony, an in-person event after a several-year hiatus! This year's ceremony promises to be an extraordinary celebration, featuring a special inclusion of students from the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Architecture. We invite you to join us for an evening of inspiration, recognition, and networking. Event Details: Date: November 17, 2023 Time: 4:00P - 9:00P Location: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Campus, Berg Gallery, 1 Grand Ave, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407 Agenda: Architecture Fair: From 4:00P - 6:00P, explore the projects, firms, and outstanding individuals who have received our prestigious awards this year. This fair provides a unique opportunity for students and professionals alike to gain insights into the latest trends and exceptional achievements in the world of architecture. o  Tables will be provided to those firms and individuals who wish to take part in the fair. We encourage all recipients to take part, bring handouts on their projects and chat with students. o  A poster board gallery of the recipients will be on display for students and professionals. Poster boards are being made in-house using images submitted. If we require any other images, recipients will be contacted directly. Award Ceremony: From 6:30P - 7:30P, join us as we honor the best and brightest in the field of architecture. Recognize and celebrate the recipients of this year's awards. Reception: From 7:30P - 9:00P, network with industry professionals, share your ideas, and forge new connections while enjoying a delightful reception. Ticket Information: Cal Poly Architecture Students: Attendance is free! Your participation is highly encouraged, and your fees are generously covered by the event. General Attendees: Tickets are available for purchase. Your contribution directly supports the inclusion of Cal Poly architecture students. If you plan to attend, we recommend reserving your room in advance to secure your stay during this event. The hotel is about 3.5 miles away from the Cal Poly Campus. Host: Katie Ackerly, AIA - Common Application Jury Chair *** Early Bird Registration for the AIA California Design Awards Ends 03.22.24 Register Here *** This year AIA California is hosting a webinar to review the Common Application. Come join the us as we review the form in depth, answer questions, and discuss common mistakes caught by the Common Application Review Jury. The Common App for Design Excellence is an Excel-based tool, originally conceived of and developed by Corey Squire, AIA; Helena Zambrano, AIA; and Anne Schopf, FAIA; and others. The tool is intended to help streamline sustainability reporting for AIA design awards. Since its inception, more than two dozen Design Awards Committees at the state and local level have adopted the Common App as part of the submission requirements for their chapter’s design awards. Over the past year, the COTE Network Common App Subcommittee has refreshed the Common App to improve consistency with the AIA Framework for Design Excellence and to enhance user functionality. - AIA COTE Network If planning to submit for the AIA California Design Awards, please look over the Common Application prior to the webinar and prepare questions to ask the panelists.
